We aim to help build a sustainable future by having a positive impact on our community and the planet in all that we do.
Our Community
We will, wherever possible, source our materials, products and equipment from local businesses. Supporting the local community here in Guernsey is very important to us and as a start up company on the island we understand what it means to have the support of the local community.
Our Planet
Every company no matter how large or small has an impact on the environment, we aim to reduce that impact to a minimum by enforcing various policies.
We reuse our products as much as we can to reduce waste where possible. For materials and products that cannot be reused, then we have a full recycling policy, aiming to reduce waste to landfill to an absolute minimum. We only use paper plates and cups and wooden cutlery.
Balloons
Balloons are the ultimate party decoration and we are very passionate about them!
They can be fantastic background decorations or the stunning centrepiece, but when the party is over, how should we dispose of them?
There is a lot of debate and confusion as how best to dispose of them and the environmental impact they have.
Latex Balloons
We only use the highest quality latex balloons. They are made from 100% natural latex tapped from the rubber tree – Hevea Brasiliensis, a completely natural product. Organic pigments are added to the latex to make hundreds of colours.
Latex balloons are biodegradable and photodegradable. When you see a clear balloon start to "fog" when in the sun, you are seeing it beginning to oxidize and photodegrade.
It is thought that latex balloons decompose at about the same rate as an oak leaf in natural soil conditions, the rate of degradation is highly variable in other conditions though, as it is influenced by many variables such as temperature, the amount of light, the presence of latex consuming microbes, etc.
Please do not release latex balloons into the environment, although they will eventually decompose, until that time they will litter our seas, beaches and countryside, they will be not only visually offensive but may also cause harm to wildlife and marine life.
Mylar/Foil Balloons
Mylar balloons are made with a plastic/nylon/foil synthetic material that is not biodegradable but can be recycled. They will be in the landfills forever, so always recycle them along with your recyclable plastics.
The best policy is to reuse rather than recycle and where possible we would always recommend to reuse these types of balloons. They can be quite fragile and so this is not possible every time, but if a straw is inserted into the hole where it is inflated then the helium can be pressed out to store the balloons flat, ready for reinflation next time!
Don’t let go: Inflate, Weight, Enjoy!
